Ways to stay healthy during flu season!

1. QUIT EATING CRAP! No, crap is not my favorite word BUT its the only word that encompasses how I see people eat and feed their kids. Is it bad to have cookies, cake, pizza, and tacos every now and then? Not at all! But if more of your meals are made up of freezer meals, pop tarts, “sugar cereal”, chips, and soft drinks then you need to change some things! The same goes for you children; pop tarts, chicken nuggets, chips, hotdogs, and goldfish are killing your child’s immune system.
2. Everyone in your house should be taking a multi vitamin, a probiotic, vitamin C and during cold/flu season Elderberry. We prefer Garden of Life brand because I know what is in it and have researched the best option for us. It is a little more expensive but to me being healthy is totally worth it. Here is a link that include all the vitamins we take, take notice there is a mens, women’s, and children’s. www.amazon.com/shop/bohartley
3. Drink water! Drink Water! Drink Water! How much water? You should be drinking half of a gallon, MINIMUM! If it helps get a water bottle you love! Here is my favorite! I take it everywhere, it has tons of stickers, a great spout to drink out of, and keeps your water cold longer than a yeti! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0188QB88A/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I1D4RZGXW35ES4&colid=37SIAELWN2DX6&psc=1
4. Slam your body with protein! Eggs, protein shakes, tuna packs, chicken, steak, Greek yogurt (also a great source of a probiotic!)
5. Drink Kombucha. This is an acquired taste but so so so worth it! We love it, Ezra even drinks it! What is Kombucha? Kombucha is a fermented beverage consisting of black tea and sugar from various sources, including cane sugar, fruit or honey that is used as a probiotic food. It contains a large amount of bacteria and yeast that are responsible for initiating the fermentation process once combined with sugar. After fermentation, kombucha becomes carbonated and contains vinegar, B vitamins, enzymes, probiotics and a high concentration of acid. These bacteria are known as celluose-producing bacteria meaning they produce cellulose, which acts as a shield to cells, ISN’T THAT AMAZING!? DID YOU KNOW THAT 80 PERCENT OF YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM IS LOCATED IN YOUR GUT AND YOUR DIGESTIVE SYSTEM IS THE SECOND LARGEST PART OF YOUR NEUROLOGICAL SYSTEM?! Hello, second brain! Due to the fermentation process involved in creating kombucha, it contains a large number of healthy bacteria known as probiotics These bacteria line your digestive tract and support your immune system, as they absorb nutrients and fight infection and illness. Drinking kombucha every day can help you to maintain peak immune health, which trickles down into an impressive number of benefits for your overall health. Our favorite brand is HUMM Publix and Target carry it. I like all of the flavors, Russ is partial to Strawberry Lemonade and Ezra loves blueberry mint and coconut lime
6. STAY HOME IF YOU DON’T FEEL GOOD!! I need a palm to face image for this point. I know its hard to miss work and school and life BUT you are the cause of the epidemic, stay home and get well PLEASE!
7. Wash your hands A LOT, use hand sanitizer A LOT, and make sure you use lotion as well, as this will dry out your hands!
8. and last try oil pulling! Here is a link to an article about the benefits of oil pulling, its so easy to do in the shower. I prefer coconut oil we use Aldi brand or order from amazon https://www.amazon.com/Garden-Life-Organic-Virgin-Coconut/dp/B06X1FX7DM/ref=cm_wl_huc_item SIDENOTE: Make sure it is Unrefined Virgin Coconut oil!

Since implementing these daily habits I have avoided even the smallest cold the past two years. I will attempt to post some recipes and other helpful tips as time goes on! If you have any questions about anything please comment and I will be happy to answer. If it is a more personal question please fill out the contact form on the About me page and I will get with you ASAP!
*I am not a doctor and do not claim to be. These are methods I have personally read about and researched and would love others to try!
